Light at the end of the Tunnel for Commercial Energy Assessors?

I have posted before about trading standards failure to police undetaking of Commercial EPC’s and a recent survey carried out by National Energy Services showed there is an amazing 81% of Commercial Properties being advertised for sale or let without an EPC.

This is a cause of major concern amongst Energy Assessors qualified to carry out Commercial EPC’s, due to the sheer lack of work out there. 12,000 EPC’s and DEC’s are being lodged per month according to the official lodgement figures, so split that between the 3,000 qualified assessors gives an average of 4 jobs per month!

It also means that 81% of owner/landlords breaking the Law and leaving themselves open to a possible £5000 fine.

After some publicity about the matter over the last few weeks, the government have acted by sending out a guidance document to all Trading standards officers across the country.

Let’s hope this is the start of a significant campaign to see the legislation enforced and the Commercial EPC market having some sensible volume to go at.
